Healing begins with a home.
In a quiet, nurturing home, sisters once separated by trauma find safety, belonging, and hope. Peas in a Pod offers more than shelter — it offers girls aged 6 to 18 a stable, loving environment tailored to their unique journeys of recovery and growth. The name itself reflects their commitment to never separating siblings, ensuring that sisters stay together as they begin to heal.
The challenge
Girls affected by abuse and neglect in Pretoria Central had limited access to safe, structured care.
Many were placed in temporary shelters that didn’t support long-term healing, development, or reunification — and often, siblings were split up in the process.
Our response
Peas in a Pod operates a licensed Child and Youth Care Centre focused on individualised care and personal development. In close partnership with social workers and local government, each girls is welcomed into a home-like setting with a dedicated housemother.

Together, they work through six holistic recovery programmes:
Individual Development Plan
Personalised growth plans guided by professionals.
Therapeutic Programme
Trauma-informed counselling and emotional support.
Individual Educational Programme
Tailored education placement and learning plans.
Life Skills Programme
Practical skills to navigate social and real-world environments.
Family Reunification Programme
Safe reconnection with family or significant others.
Spiritual Care Programme
Christian faith-based guidance and emotional grounding.
Over 100 girls have been taken through individual recovery programmes, each starting their journey of healing.

What's next?
Peas in a Pod remains committed to long-term, restorative care — nurturing healing in a way that lasts. The vision is to remain a safe, stable refuge where girls not only recover, but rebuild, thrive and reunite — together.
“We believe that everyone should have a place of safety, especially young girls. We call it Peas in a Pod because here, sisters stay together.”
